What is Happening?
Google has made significant updates to its analytics services, and as part of these changes, Universal Analytics (UA360) was deactivated on June 30, 2024. This means that the statistics feature relying on UA360 is no longer functional.
How will Jimdo help me with this change?
To ensure that you continue to have access to valuable insights, Jimdo is introducing its own tracking system called Jimdo Statistics. This new system allows you to capture a larger number of visitors, providing you with a more comprehensive picture of visitor behavior. At the same time, data privacy and security are enhanced through advanced techniques.
Benefits of Jimdo Statistics
Jimdo Statistics is an efficient, privacy-friendly tool designed to provide valuable insights into your website. By using this tool, you benefit from:
- Enhanced Data Privacy: With advanced anonymization and state of the art secure data storage, the data of your customers is handled by Jimdo. As a company located in Germany the strict requirements of the GDPR apply.
- Cookieless Tracking: The tool uses advanced techniques to track visitor behavior without relying on cookies. This eliminates the need for user consent, simplifying compliance and respecting user privacy. Additionally, this approach allows for tracking a much larger portion of your visitors. Under the old system using Google Analytics, only visitors who actively consented to cookie storage were counted. With Jimdo Statistics, all visitors can be counted, providing a more comprehensive view of your website's traffic.
- Comprehensive Visitor Insights: Detailed analyses provide a complete picture of visitor behavior and help you understand how visitors navigate your website and which content is most engaging. This allows you to optimize your website for better performance and higher conversion rates.
- User-Friendliness: The seamless integration makes it simple to use Jimdo Statistics. Jimdo will roll out the new statistics feature automatically for you. No action needs to be taken.
- Data Control: Additionally, Jimdo guarantees that collected data will not be sold to third parties, ensuring the highest level of data privacy and security.
Introduction of Jimdo Statistics and Deprecation of Google UA360 Statistics
Technical Transition
- End of Service for GA: The old Google UA360 system was shut down at the end of the day on June 30th. There was a brief transition phase during which no data was collected.
- Launch of New Feature: The new Jimdo Statistics system was activated on July 1st and has become the new standard. As a result, the statistics started from zero.
- Opt-out Option: If you prefer not to use Jimdo Statistics, you can easily opt-out at any time via Menu > SEO > Statistics. This flexibility ensures that you have control over your analytics tools and data.
What Changes?
Privacy Policy Changes
Your website's privacy policy will be automatically updated to include a template text for Jimdo Statistics, ensuring legal compliance without needing manual updates. A new setting (Menu > Settings > Privacy & Security) allows you to opt out of the standard text if you prefer to add your own custom text, giving you flexibility and control over your privacy disclosures.
Google Analytics Cookies
We will remove the Google Analytics cookie from the cookie banner once we launch the Jimdo Statistics. The cookie will remain active only if you have connected your own Google Analytics account in the settings (Menu > SEO > Google Analytics).
What stays the Same?
Familiar View
The appearance of the statistics page of your website remains unchanged, ensuring you maintain your familiar user experience. The most important information continues to be found in its usual places. The page structure and the arrangement of functions also remain the same, allowing you to easily find your information. This enables you to seamlessly work with the new Jimdo Statistics without needing to adapt to a new user interface. This familiar environment helps you to stay efficient and productive while utilizing the enhanced features and benefits of the new system.
Tracking Events
The events tracked remain focused on capturing essential information to ensure you receive consistent insights and analytics. This continuity in tracking allows you to utilize key data points and metrics to understand user behavior and interactions on your website.
Managing Historical Data
The Google UA360 system was shut down at the end of June. Shortly before this, the historical analysis data from the past 12 months was exported. We have made this data available to you directly in the admin panel of your Jimdo website, with the exception of the last week of June. However, the data from this week is displayed in your statistics view.
To download your data:
- Log in to your Jimdo account and choose the desired website
- Click Edit to enter your Jimdo Creator website’s edit mode
- Go to Menu > SEO > Statistics.
- Click on Download Historical Export File
- Download Data: Follow the prompt to download your data as a CSV file.
You can open and manage the downloaded CSV file with any spreadsheet software, such as Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or similar programs. Note that the file is comma-separated, and this should be considered when importing the file into these programs. For a detailed guide on using CSV files, please refer to the support center article.
Additionally, you can analyze your statistics using AI programs like ChatGPT. Simply input the data from your CSV file to gain insights and generate reports.
