If you use a Business, Shop, or Platinum plan with your Jimdo Creator website, you can use a URL redirect to forward the URL of one page to another. Visitors that enter a certain URL will then be automatically redirected to the new one.
Setting up a URL redirect
Here’s how to create a URL forwarder:
- Log in to your Jimdo account and choose the desired website
- Click Edit to enter your Jimdo Creator website’s edit mode
- In the menu, go to SEO > Settings > URL Redirects
- Click on Add new entry
- Enter the original URL and choose the target page
Please note that the original URL is assumed to be one of your website pages. That way, you don't need to enter the entire URL.
Example: If the URL would be www.mywebsite.com/team/ you would just enter /team/ here. - Save the changes
When is a URL redirect helpful?
If you’ve had your website at another provider for a long time, then you’ll want to ‘transfer’ your Google ranking to Jimdo, along with your website. If you have the same content on the new URL, then you can redirect the old URL to the new one.
If there are certain keywords in your URL for SEO reasons, this can make a URL really long. In this case, it makes sense to redirect from a short URL to a long one. Shorter URLs are easier to remember, and are better for sharing.
