From 27 September 2026, a new EU rule requires every online shop that sells physical goods to consumers in the EU to display a standardised Legal Guarantee Label. It informs shoppers about their statutory guarantee rights, clearly and consistently, before they buy. We're already working on making this available for Jimdo Creator shops, in the right place and fully compliant, before the deadline. Here's what it is, whether it applies to you, and what to do right now.
What is the Legal Guarantee Label?
It is a mandatory, legally prescribed notice and not a marketing badge, informing your customers about their statutory guarantee rights.
Across the EU, consumer goods carry a legal guarantee of at least two years. Its design, colours, and wording are fully standardised and can't be changed.
It typically includes:
- The statutory minimum guarantee period of two years
- A note that some EU countries allow longer periods, and that different rules can apply to used goods
- Examples of when a guarantee case applies (e.g. the product doesn't match its description, or doesn't work properly)
- The customer's possible rights: free repair, free replacement, price reduction, or refund
- A QR code linking to the EU's "Your Europe" portal
Until now, referencing statutory rights in your terms and conditions was enough.
From 27 September 2026, that is no longer sufficient, and the label has to be shown actively, in colour, and clearly visible before the purchase is completed.
Who does this apply to?
Any business selling physical goods to consumers (B2C) in the EU through your own shop, mobile views, apps, or any other digital sales channel.
There's no exemption for small businesses or solo self-employed people, regardless of revenue or team size.
Selling through platforms like Amazon, eBay, or Etsy doesn't change your responsibility.
Pure B2B transactions aren't affected.
Where the label needs to appear
Clearly visible on the product page or in the checkout process, not hidden behind a link or a mouse-over.
Also included in the order confirmation, on a durable medium (e.g. as a PDF attached to the confirmation email), a link alone isn't enough.
Do you need to do anything right now?
Note: Not yet, for the label itself. Nothing changes on your site automatically, and there's nothing to set up today.
We'll update this article and notify you as soon as the tools to add it are available in your website editor.
This will be opt-in, not automatic — you'll switch it on yourself once it's ready, and we'll walk you through exactly how.
What about the GARAN label?
You may also see mentions of a "GARAN" label.
This is a separate, optional EU label that only applies when a product's manufacturer offers a free guarantee of more than two years on the whole product, and it isn't required for most shops.
It's not available in Jimdo Creator yet; we're considering it for a future release based on demand.
Important: This article is for general information and can't replace individual legal advice. If you're unsure whether or how this applies to your business, please consult a legal professional.
What's next
We'll publish full step-by-step instructions here once the feature is live, similar to how we handled the EU withdrawal button rollout.
We'll notify you through email and in-app messages when it's your turn to set it up.
The legal deadline is 27 September 2026, but you won't need to act until the tools are ready.

Frequently Asked Questions
When does this obligation start?
27 September 2026, EU-wide, with no transition period. It's based on Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960, together with the Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU and the Sale of Goods Directive 2019/771.
Do I need to do anything today?
Not for the label itself — there's nothing to set up yet. If you haven't already, consider turning on the Legal Text Generator in the meantime. We'll update this article and notify you once the label can be added to your shop.
Does this apply to my Creator shop?
Yes, if you sell physical goods to consumers in the EU — regardless of your revenue or business size. It doesn't apply if you only sell digital products/services, or don't sell to EU consumers. Pure B2B sales aren't affected.
What is the GARAN label, and do I need it?
GARAN is a separate, optional label for products with a manufacturer's guarantee of more than two years on the whole product. Most shops won't need it. It's not available in Creator yet — we're considering it for a future release.
What happens if I don't display it correctly?
Missing or incorrect guarantee notices are a common basis for competition-law warning letters in the EU. We can't give legal advice on your specific situation — if you're unsure, please consult a legal professional.
Will I be notified when it's ready?
Yes — by email and in-app message, and we'll update this article with full instructions.
