Offer PayPal in your shop's checkout and your customers can pay with their PayPal balance, credit card, debit card, or bank transfer.
To connect PayPal you need two things: a PayPal business account and your PayPal credentials (a Client ID and a Secret). This guide shows you both steps. It takes about five minutes.
Already using PayPal in your shop? If PayPal payments are working, you don't need to do anything - your connection stays active and nothing changes for you.
Step 1: Get your PayPal business account
If you already have one, continue to Step 2.
If not, create one on PayPal's website: Sign up for a PayPal business account. A personal PayPal account is not enough to accept payments in a shop.
Important information about the PayPal integration
Important: To connect PayPal to your store, you need a PayPal business account. PayPal Plus is not supported.
The PayPal integration in the Jimdo Creator store is built in and cannot be extended with custom plugins or alternative PayPal solutions.
If PayPal makes changes to its systems or features, the integration will be updated by Jimdo accordingly.
You do not need to take any action or make changes in your store.
Step 2: Find your PayPal credentials
- Go to developer.paypal.com and log in with your PayPal business account.
- Open Apps & Credentials and make sure Live is selected (not Sandbox).
- Click Create App, give it a name (for example "My Jimdo shop") and confirm.
- PayPal now shows your Client ID and Secret. Keep this page open - you'll copy both values in the next step.
Step 3: Connect PayPal to your shop
- In your shop's menu, go to Store > Settings > Payment Options.
- Tick PayPal.
- Copy the Client ID and the Secret from PayPal and paste them into the two fields.
- Click Save.
That's it - PayPal is now active in your checkout.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use a different PayPal plugin such as Advanced Checkout
No. The Jimdo Creator store only supports the built in PayPal integration. Custom plugins or alternative integrations are not supported.
I received a message from PayPal about changes or new features. Do I need to take action
No. These messages refer to external PayPal solutions. If anything changes, the Jimdo integration will be updated automatically. You do not need to set up or change anything.
I'm seeing a "Reconnect your PayPal account" message. What do I do?
PayPal stopped supporting the connection method your shop was using, so PayPal payments are paused. To start accepting them again, follow Step 2 and Step 3 above with your existing PayPal business account. Your shop, orders, and other settings are not affected.
I'm having trouble connecting. What should I check?
If you see an error after saving, the credentials usually weren't copied completely. Copy the Client ID and Secret again directly from PayPal (no extra spaces before or after), and check you're using Live credentials, not Sandbox ones.
