If you already own a domain, you can transfer it to your paid Jimdo Creator website. Here you can learn how to prepare the transfer, start it, and understand important status messages. Please note: for .de domains and many global domains (gTLDs like .com or .net), you will need to verify your data via email before the transfer is initiated.
Preparing for the domain transfer
Before starting the transfer, make sure to complete the following steps.
- Ask your current domain host to release the domain for transfer. Also request the AuthCode. This will be sent to the Admin-C email address listed for your domain.
- Back up any important data from your domain email account (@yourdomain.com). These email accounts are linked to your current provider and cannot be transferred.
- A gTLD (generic top level domain) is the ending of a domain name that is used worldwide and not tied to a specific country. For example, in yourjimdowebsite.com, the part .com is the gTLD.
Common gTLDs include .com, .net, .org, or .info. These can be registered by anyone, regardless of location, and are often used for business or personal websites.
This is different from country specific domains like .de (Germany) or .fr (France).
Starting the domain transfer
You can start the transfer whether your domain is already set up in your account or not.
Domain not set up on your website yet
- Log in to your Jimdo account and choose the desired website.
- Click Edit to enter your Creator website’s edit mode.
- In the menu, go to Domains & Email > Domains.
- Click Add a new domain and choose Use an existing domain.
- Enter your domain, click Use domain, then Transfer my domain to Jimdo.
- Confirm that you have read the information about the domain transfer.
- Enter your AuthCode and check that the domain owner information is correct.
- Click Start transfer.
Note:
For .de domains and many gTLDs (such as .com, .net, or .org), you will receive an email to verify your domain owner data after entering it. The transfer will only be initiated once you have successfully completed this verification.
Domain already set up on your website
If your domain is already listed under Domains & Emails > Domains, click Connect domain next to it and follow the same steps as above.
A domain transfer usually takes between 1 and 5 days. You will receive a confirmation email once the transfer is complete.
Transfer in progress
This status appears when you have started transferring an external domain.
In most cases, this status will not change automatically.
Important: If your plan does not include a free domain, the transfer cannot be completed.
In this case, a support ticket is automatically created. Our team will contact you and inform you about any potential costs.
Only after your confirmation will an additional domain be added. After that, you can start the transfer again.
