With alternative image texts, you help Google read your images correctly. Here’s how to add alt texts for different elements on your Jimdo website:
Preparation
Complete these steps first before adding alt texts to a specific element:
- Log in to your Jimdo account.
- Select the website you want to edit.
- Click Edit Website to open the editing mode.
Afterwards, you can select the appropriate section below and add your alt text there.
Image and Image with Text Element
After opening your page, follow these steps:
- Select the Image or Image with Text element.
- In the settings at the bottom, click the Label icon (Subtitle & Alt Text).
- Enter the alt text in the provided field.
- Save your changes.
Image Gallery Element
In the Image Gallery, you can add a separate alternative text for each image.
After opening your website in editing mode, follow these steps:
- Select the Image Gallery element and click on it.
- Open the advanced settings using the List icon (List view for advanced options).
- Enter the desired alternative text in the Alternative text field.
- Save your changes.
Background Images
After opening your page, you can also add alt texts to background images:
- Go to Design > Background in the menu.
- Click the gear icon next to your selected background.

Select the Label icon from the menu.
- Enter a suitable description in the Alt Text field.
- Save your changes.
Logo
After opening the editing mode, you can also add an alt text for your logo:

Click your logo and select the Label icon from the menu.
- Enter a short description in the Alt Text field – for example, your company name.
- Save your changes.
Important Note
Alt texts are not only important for search engines but also for accessibility – for example, for screen readers.
- Use descriptive but concise texts (maximum 125 characters).
- If the image is purely decorative, you can leave the alt text field empty.
- Avoid keyword stuffing – instead, describe what is actually shown in the image.
