Until now, Jimdo Creator designs used a fixed content width. On large screens, this often resulted in empty space on the left and right sides of the content. As a result, many websites looked narrow and less modern. With the Full Width Layout option, you can display your Creator website across the entire width of the screen and make better use of the available space without using custom HTML or CSS.
What Full Width Layout means
When you activate the Full Width Layout option in the CMS, you see a preview in the editor showing how your website layout will look across the full width of the visitor’s screen. The change only goes live after you save it.
On large screens, images, backgrounds, and certain content areas can extend to the edges of the screen. This creates a more open and contemporary look. To keep text easy to read, written content is still displayed within an inner area with a limited line length.
On tablets and smartphones, the layout remains fully responsive. There is no horizontal scrolling, and all content continues to adapt automatically.
Enable Full Width Layout
To enable Full Width Layout for your Creator website, follow these steps:
Step by step
- Log in to your Jimdo account and choose the desired website
- Click Edit Website to open the Creator editor.
- Open the menu and go to Design and then Style.
- Activate the Full Width Layout toggle.
The change is visible immediately as a preview in the editor. To apply it to your live site, you need to save your changes. You can switch between the classic fixed width and the Full Width Layout at any time.
Good to know
The Full Width Layout setting always applies to the entire website design. Individual pages or sections cannot be set to full width separately.
Existing websites remain in the classic fixed width layout by default. The design only changes once you actively enable the option. There is no automatic switch.
Depending on the design you use, spacing, image sizes, or the appearance of certain elements may change slightly. After enabling Full Width Layout, review your pages and adjust content if needed. Save your changes to apply the layout to your live site.
If you do not like the result, you can disable Full Width Layout at any time and return to the previous layout.
Custom scripts and website settings
If your website uses custom scripts or specific advanced settings, Full Width Layout may not behave as expected. In some cases, layouts can appear inconsistent or unpredictable.
After enabling Full Width Layout, carefully review all pages and elements of your website. Jimdo cannot adjust or fix issues caused by custom scripts on individual websites.
Why this option exists
Many users want more modern website designs that make better use of available screen space. On large displays, a narrow fixed width layout can feel outdated.
With Full Width Layout, you can modernize your existing Creator website without changing templates or using technical workarounds.
