If you want to replace the domain of your Jimdo website with a new one, you can do this yourself. Your website content will remain the same and will simply be accessible under a different domain.

What happens during a domain change
A domain change only updates the domain of your website. Your pages, content, and settings remain unchanged. You add your new domain first, then cancel your old one once your new domain is active.
Costs for a domain change
Adding a new domain has the usual cost for that domain (depending on the extension and registration period), shown to you before you confirm the purchase. There's no separate "domain change" fee beyond the normal cost of registering or transferring your new domain.
How it works
Step 1: Add and transfer your new domain
- Log in to your Jimdo account and choose the desired website.
- Click Edit to enter your Jimdo Creator website's edit mode.
- In the menu, go to Domains & Email > Domains.
- Click Add a new domain.
- Choose Use an existing domain.
- Select Transfer my domain to Jimdo and click Transfer Domain.
- Purchase the additional domain.
- Complete the transfer using the authorization code (auth code) you requested from your previous domain provider.
Step 2: Cancel your old domain
- At the very bottom of the menu, click Subscription.
- Under Extras, find your old domain and click Cancel Extras underneath it.
Note: Set up your new domain first and make sure it's working before you cancel the old one, so your website stays reachable throughout the switch.
Email addresses during a domain change
If you're using email addresses with your old domain, they will not be transferred automatically during the domain change.
Make sure to back up your existing emails locally before the domain change. You can find instructions here: Back up your emails.
After that, follow these steps:
- Delete your old email addresses under Menu > Domains and Emails > Email accounts.
- Create new email addresses for your new domain in the same section.
- Set up a forwarding under Menu > Domains and Emails > Email accounts > Forwarding, where you enter your old email address as the forwarding address and your new email address as the destination.
This way, emails sent to your old email address will automatically be forwarded to your new email address. This works as long as your old domain is still active.
What happens to my old domain
Your old domain will be cancelled at the end of its current subscription period. Until then, it will remain connected to your website and continue to work as usual.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to contact support to change my domain?
No. You can add your new domain and cancel your old one yourself, following the steps above.
How much does a domain change cost?
You pay the normal registration or transfer cost for your new domain, shown to you before you confirm the purchase.
Will my website content stay the same?
Yes, your website remains unchanged. Only the domain is updated.
