If you want to replace the domain of your Jimdo website with a new one, you can request a domain change. Your website content will remain the same and will simply be accessible under a different domain.
What happens during a domain change
A domain change only updates the domain of your website. Your pages, content, and settings remain unchanged.
The new domain is not registered automatically. After the domain change, you can decide whether to register a new domain or transfer an existing domain to Jimdo.
If you have already found an available domain, you can register it after the domain change and use it directly for your website.
Costs for a domain change
A domain change involves a one-time fee. The exact amount depends on several factors, such as the domain extension and the remaining subscription period of your current domain.
You will always receive the exact costs in advance and can then decide whether you want to proceed with the domain change.
If you have already contacted us, you will receive the specific cost details directly in the reply from our Support Team.
How it works
The domain change is carried out by our Support Team.
- You let us know which existing domain you want to replace and which new domain you want to use.
- You will receive all details about the costs in advance.
- After your confirmation, your website will be prepared for the new domain and your existing domain will be cancelled.
After the domain change, you can either register a new domain or transfer an existing domain to Jimdo.
If you want to register a new domain, you should first check if it is available.
Email addresses during a domain change
If you are using email addresses with your old domain, they will not be transferred automatically during the domain change.
Make sure to back up your existing emails locally before the domain change. You can find instructions here: Back up your emails.
After that, follow these steps:
- Delete your old email addresses under Menu > Domains and Emails > Email accounts.
- Create new email addresses for your new domain in the same section.
- Set up a forwarding under Menu > Domains and Emails > Email accounts > Forwarding, where you enter your old email address as the forwarding address and your new email address as the destination.
This way, emails sent to your old email address will automatically be forwarded to your new email address. This works as long as your old domain is still active.
What happens to my old domain
Your old domain will be cancelled at the end of its current subscription period. Until then, it will remain connected to your website and continue to work as usual.
