This article explains how to connect an external domain to your Jimdo website using nameservers. By setting up your domain this way, you can keep your domain hosted with an external provider while still linking it to your Jimdo website.
Add Your Domain to Jimdo
To ensure the redirection works smoothly, first, add your external domain to your domain settings in Jimdo:
- Log in to your Jimdo account and select the desired website.
- Click Edit Website to enter the editing mode of your Creator website.
- Go to Domains & Emails > Domains in the menu.
- Click on Add a new domain.
- Select Use an existing domain and enter the domain you want to connect.
- Click Add domain.
Redirect Your Domain via Nameservers
We recommend connecting your external domain via nameservers (DNS redirection) if you want to use your Creator website while keeping your domain hosted with an external provider.
Good to know:
- Use nameserver connection if you want to set up an email account with Jimdo.
- Do not use nameservers if you already have an email account with an external provider that you wish to continue using. In this case, we recommend using a CNAME redirection instead.
Update the Nameservers
- Log in to your provider's admin panel.
- Update the nameserver settings for your domain to the following:
- ns13.jimdo.com
- ns14.jimdo.com
After setting up the redirection, it may take up to 24 hours for your domain to be fully connected to your Jimdo website.
Important:
If you encounter issues while setting up the nameservers, check the help center of your domain provider for a solution or contact their support team directly. Please note that the Jimdo support team cannot provide assistance with external tools.
