If you already have an email account with your current domain provider that you want to keep, we recommend connecting it via CNAME entry. In short, this means that everything related to your email account will be managed directly at your domain provider—everything else, can be managed through Jimdo.
Please keep in mind that:
- You need to set up the CNAME forwarding directly with your domain provider. Your Jimdo website is merely the target of this forwarding, and we can’t set it up for you.
- You will also need to create a 301 redirect for your domain so that your visitors can always reach your website.
Adding a CNAME entry
A CNAME redirect generally looks like this:
www.yourdomain.xx CNAME web.jimdo.com
Exchange ‘yourdomain.xx’ with the correct details.
Example:
In the previous example, the target of your redirect has to be web.jimdo.com and this is not a placeholder.
Important Notice about CNAME Forwarding
On April 21, 2025, the old subdomain .jimdo.com will be removed. CNAME forwarding to the old address will no longer work after this date.
If your external domain is still using CNAME pointing to .jimdo.com, update it to web.jimdo.com to keep the connection active.
Update the entry with your domain provider in time. If you have questions, please contact your provider's support.
Creating a 301-Redirect
To make sure visitors can still reach your website, even if they don’t type in www. before the domain, you’ll need to create a 301 redirect.
Here’s how it works (just exchange the placeholder for your details):
Origin: yourdomain.xx
Target address: www.yourdomain.xx
Note
After the redirect has been set up, it can take up to 24 hours for the changes to take effect. Please also make sure that you have associated the domain with your Jimdo Creator website.
