You can use your Jimdo email account in an email program such as Outlook, Apple Mail or Thunderbird, or in an email app on your phone. To connect your account, you need the server settings below.
In this article:
Your mailbox is being upgraded to Jimdo Mail
We're upgrading all Jimdo mailboxes to Jimdo Mail step by step. If you use Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird or an email app on your phone, you need to update the settings in each of these apps once after your mailbox has been upgraded. Until then, your email apps keep working with your current settings.
Check whether your mailbox has been upgraded
Log in to your Jimdo account, choose the website your email address belongs to and click Edit. Go to Menu > Domains & Email > Email Accounts.
Next to your email address, click the info icon (i). It shows the server settings that currently apply to your mailbox.
- If the settings show imap.mail.jimdo.com, your mailbox has been upgraded. Use the settings for Jimdo Mail further down this page.
- If the settings show secure.emailsrvr.com, your mailbox hasn't been upgraded yet. Keep using your current settings. We'll email you before your mailbox is upgraded.
Server settings for Jimdo Mail
Use these settings if your mailbox has already been upgraded:
| Protocol | Server | Port |
|---|---|---|
| IMAP (incoming) | imap.mail.jimdo.com | 993 (SSL/TLS) |
| POP3 (incoming) | pop.mail.jimdo.com | 995 (SSL/TLS) |
| SMTP (outgoing) | smtp.mail.jimdo.com | 465 (SSL/TLS), alternatively 587 (STARTTLS) |
- Username: your full email address
- Password: the password you set for your upgraded mailbox
Update the settings in your email apps
The exact steps depend on your email app. In most apps, you'll find the server settings in the account settings.
- Open your email app and go to the account settings for your Jimdo email address.
- Replace the incoming mail server (IMAP or POP3) with the new server and port from the table above. Your current incoming server is secure.emailsrvr.com.
- Replace the outgoing mail server (SMTP) with the new server and port from the table above. Your current outgoing server is also secure.emailsrvr.com.
- Enter your full email address as the username and your new password.
- Save your changes and send yourself a test email to check that everything works.
Repeat these steps for every app and device you use, for example your computer and your phone.
Important: If you use POP3, don't delete your email account from the app to set it up again. With POP3, your emails are often only stored on your device, so deleting the account may delete these emails too. Update the server settings in the existing account instead.
You'll find short instructions for the most common email programs below. If your app isn't listed, check its help pages for how to change the server settings.
Classic Outlook (Windows)
These steps apply to classic Outlook for Windows. If you use New Outlook for Windows, see the note below.
Known issue: New Outlook for Windows
The New Outlook app for Windows does not apply new server settings to an existing account, so it cannot connect to your upgraded mailbox. Removing the account and adding it again doesn't help either. This is a limitation of New Outlook itself and unfortunately not something we can fix.
Please use one of these instead:
- Webmail at inbox.jimdo.com (works right away, nothing to set up)
- Classic Outlook
- Thunderbird or another email program
- The mail app on your phone
- Open classic Outlook and click File > Account Settings > Server Settings.
- Select your Jimdo email address if you're asked to choose an account.
- Under Incoming mail, enter the new incoming server and port (imap.mail.jimdo.com and port 993 for IMAP, or pop.mail.jimdo.com and port 995 for POP3), and select SSL/TLS as the encryption method.
- Under Outgoing mail, enter smtp.mail.jimdo.com as the server and 465 as the port, and select SSL/TLS as the encryption method.
- Enter your new password and click Next to save your changes.
Apple Mail (Mac)
- Open Mail and click Mail > Settings in the menu bar.
- Click Accounts and select your Jimdo email account.
- Click Server Settings.
- Under Incoming Mail Server (IMAP) or (POP), enter the new server as the host name (imap.mail.jimdo.com for IMAP or pop.mail.jimdo.com for POP3). Clear Automatically manage connection settings, enter the port (993 for IMAP or 995 for POP3) and select Use TLS/SSL.
- Under Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP), enter smtp.mail.jimdo.com as the host name. Clear Automatically manage connection settings, enter 465 as the port and select Use TLS/SSL.
- Enter your new password in both sections and click Save.
Mail app (iPhone and iPad)
- Open Settings and tap Mail > Accounts. On newer iOS versions, tap Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts.
- Select your Jimdo email account and tap the account with your email address to open the account settings.
- Under Incoming Mail Server, enter imap.mail.jimdo.com as the Host Name. Enter your full email address as the Username and your new password.
-
Under Outgoing Mail Server, tap SMTP. Then tap the server listed under Primary Server.
-
Enter smtp.mail.jimdo.com as the Host Name and your full email address as the Username, and enter your new password. iOS marks these fields as optional, but they are required. Turn on Use SSL, enter 465 as the Server Port (587 also works) and tap Done.
- Go back to the account settings, tap Advanced and check that Use SSL is turned on for incoming mail and that the port is 993. Then tap Done to save your changes.
Important: The Mail app saves the password for the outgoing server separately from the incoming server, so your old password may still be stored there after the upgrade. Also, selecting port 465 doesn't turn on Use SSL automatically. Turn it on yourself.
Can you receive emails but not send them? If you see messages such as "Cannot Send Mail", "sender address was invalid" or "rejected by the server", your username or password for the outgoing server is usually missing or out of date. Repeat steps 4 and 5.
Thunderbird
- Open Thunderbird and go to Account Settings.
- Under your Jimdo email address, click Server Settings.
- Enter the new incoming server as the Server Name (imap.mail.jimdo.com for IMAP or pop.mail.jimdo.com for POP3), enter the port (993 for IMAP or 995 for POP3) and select SSL/TLS under Connection security.
- In the account list on the left, click Outgoing Server (SMTP), select the server for your Jimdo email address and click Edit.
- Enter smtp.mail.jimdo.com as the Server Name and 465 as the Port, select SSL/TLS under Connection security and click OK.
- Thunderbird asks for your password the next time you send or receive emails. Enter your new password.
Server settings for mailboxes that haven't been upgraded yet
Use these settings as long as your mailbox hasn't been upgraded to Jimdo Mail:
| Protocol | Server | Port |
|---|---|---|
| IMAP (incoming) | secure.emailsrvr.com | 993 (SSL/TLS) |
| POP3 (incoming) | secure.emailsrvr.com | 995 (SSL/TLS) |
| SMTP (outgoing) | secure.emailsrvr.com | 465 (SSL/TLS), alternatively 587 or 8025 (STARTTLS) |
Username: your full email address
IMAP or POP3?
IMAP and POP3 work differently. Choose the one that suits the way you use email:
- IMAP keeps your emails on the server. You can see all your emails both in the webmail and in your email apps. If you reply to, write or delete an email in one place, the change appears everywhere.
- POP3 downloads your emails to the email app on your computer or phone. Emails downloaded this way may not be available in the webmail or on your other devices.
