We're upgrading Jimdo email to JimdoMail, a new, more user-friendly system. Your email address stays exactly the same, and your emails move across automatically. This article explains what's happening, what you might want to prepare, and what to expect.
Important: If you have contacts, calendar entries or tasks saved directly in your current webmail, save them before the upgrade. They aren't transferred automatically. You'll find the steps under What do I need to do before the upgrade?
In this article:
What is happening and why
We're moving Jimdo email to a more modern platform. It brings better reliability, a user-friendly webmail and stronger security.
The upgrade happens on our side and your mailbox is moved for you. In most cases, you don't need to change anything.
Is your domain registered with another provider? Depending on how your domain is connected to Jimdo, you may need to update your domain settings yourself. Please don't change anything before we email you. Find out whether this applies to you
What stays the same
- Your email address: Unchanged, nobody needs to update anything to reach you.
- Your emails: All messages are moved across automatically.
- Your aliases and forwarding rules: Carried over.
Adding or removing mailboxes after the upgrade
For a short time after the upgrade, you can't add new mailboxes or remove existing ones. This also applies to buying an additional email add-on. We're working on it, and these options will be available in the next few weeks.
Your existing mailboxes aren't affected and work as usual.
When will my mailbox be upgraded?
We're upgrading mailboxes in stages over the coming months, so don't worry if someone you know receives their notice before you do.
We'll email you in advance, and again shortly before your upgrade. Instead of an exact date, we let you know the days in which your upgrade will happen.
During the upgrade, there's a brief period where you can't send or receive emails. Incoming emails aren't lost, they're delivered to your new mailbox afterwards.
Note: You never need to request the upgrade or pick a date. We take care of the scheduling and let you know in good time.
What do I need to do before the upgrade?
Contacts, calendar entries and tasks saved in your current Jimdo webmail are not transferred automatically to JimdoMail. If you want to keep them, save them before your upgrade date:
- Contacts: Export them now and import them into JimdoMail after the upgrade. Transfer your contacts to the new JimdoMail webmail
- Calendar and tasks: Copy the entries you want to keep. Keep your calendar entries and tasks before your email upgrade
Contacts stored in other apps or services, such as Outlook, aren't affected by the upgrade.
Your emails are transferred automatically, so you don't need to back them up for the upgrade. If you'd still like your own copy on your computer, you can create one before the upgrade: How do I save my emails on my computer?
Setting your new password after the upgrade
After your mailbox has moved, you need to create a new password for your mailbox before you can access your emails. This is a one-time security step. You don't need your old mailbox password and you don't need to request a password reset.
To create your new password:
- Log in to your Jimdo account and select the desired website.
- In the menu on the left, click JimdoMail.
- Click Create password next to your email address.
- Enter your new password, confirm it and click Save.
- Go to inbox.jimdo.com and log in with your full email address and your new password.
Please note that your webmail address changes from webmail.jimdo.com to inbox.jimdo.com.
Forgot your new password later? Change or reset your JimdoMail password
Note: When we reset your password as part of the upgrade, the email app on your phone may show a security notification asking whether it was really you who changed the password. This is expected and part of the upgrade. You don't need to take any action or reset anything.
Important: We will never ask you for your current password by email. If an email asks you to "confirm" your old password, don't enter it.
Tip: Your new mailbox supports optional two-factor authentication for extra security. Set up two-factor authentication for your JimdoMail mailbox
If you use an email program (Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird)
If you read your emails in a program on your computer or phone, you need to update the server settings once after the upgrade. You'll find the settings and instructions here: Setting up your JimdoMail account in an email program
Your storage
After the upgrade, your JimdoMail mailbox comes with 25 GB of storage, giving you plenty of space for your emails and attachments. You can check your storage usage in the new JimdoMail webmail.
