If you can't send or receive emails, or you can't log in to your mailbox, go through the checks below in order. Each step helps you find out whether it applies to you and links to the full instructions. Most problems are solved in one of the first steps.
In this article:
Step 1: Check whether your mailbox has been upgraded to JimdoMail
We're moving all Jimdo mailboxes to JimdoMail. Some settings change after the upgrade, so first check which mailbox you're using:
- Log in to your Jimdo account and select the desired website.
- Check whether you see JimdoMail in the menu on the left.
If you see JimdoMail, your mailbox has been upgraded. Continue with step 2. If you don't see it, your mailbox hasn't been upgraded yet, so the following steps don't apply to you. If your email still isn't working, please contact our Support team.
Note: Please don't use the webmail address to check whether your mailbox has been upgraded. During the upgrade period, both the old and the new webmail address are available.
You'll find everything about the upgrade in our article Your Jimdo email is being upgraded: everything you need to know.
Step 2: Create your new password
After the upgrade, you need to create a new password for your mailbox once before you can use it again. Your old password doesn't work in JimdoMail. You don't need to request a password reset for this.
To create your new password:
- Log in to your Jimdo account and select the desired website.
- In the menu on the left, click JimdoMail.
- Click Create password next to your email address.
- Enter your new password, confirm it and click Save.

Step 3: Log in to your webmail
Go to inbox.jimdo.com and log in with your full email address and your new password.
- You can log in and see your emails: your mailbox is working. If you have problems in Outlook, Apple Mail or another email program, continue with step 4. If new emails aren't arriving, continue with step 5.
- You can't log in: check that you're entering your full email address, for example name@yourdomain.com, and the password you created in step 2. If it still doesn't work, reset your JimdoMail password.
Step 4: Update the settings in your email program
If you read your emails in a program on your computer or phone, such as Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird or the email app on your phone, you need to update the server settings (IMAP and SMTP) once after the upgrade. The old settings and your old password no longer work.
You'll find the settings and step-by-step instructions here: Setting up your JimdoMail account in an email program (Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird)
Note: The email app on your phone may show a security notification after the upgrade, asking whether you changed your password. This is expected and part of the upgrade.
Step 5: Check your domain settings
This step only applies if your domain is registered with another provider and its DNS settings are managed there. In this case, you need to update the MX records for your domain yourself so that your emails arrive in JimdoMail.
- We've emailed you that it's time to switch: check whether you've already updated your MX records. If not, please do it now.
- We haven't emailed you yet: please don't change anything. If you change your settings too early, you can lose emails.
After you've updated your MX records, it can take 24 to 48 hours until the changes take effect everywhere.
You'll find out whether this applies to you and how to update your records here: JimdoMail upgrade with an external domain: what you need to do
