If you already have an email account with your current domain provider that you want to keep, we recommend connecting via CNAME entry. That means everything to do with your email account is managed at your domain provider—everything else, you can manage through Jimdo.
Please remember to also create a 301 redirect for your domain so that visitors can always reach your website without a problem.
Adding a CNAME entry
A CNAME redirect generally looks like this:
www.yourdomain.xx CNAME your Jimdo domain
Exchange ‘yourdomain.xx’ and ‘your Jimdo domain’ with the correct details. You can find your Jimdo domain by following these steps:
- Log in to your Jimdo account and choose the desired website
- Click Edit to enter your Jimdo Creator website’s edit mode
- Go to Menu > Domains & Emails > Domains
- Copy the domain called your Jimdo domain in the domain management screen
Here are a few examples:
www.my-example-site.com CNAME my-example-site.jimdo.com
www.yourdomain.com CNAME yourjimdodomain.jimdofree.com
Creating a 301-Redirect
To make sure visitors can still reach your website, even if they don’t type in www. before the domain, you’ll need to create a 301 redirect.
Here’s how it works (just exchange the placeholder for your details):
Target address: www.yourdomain.xx
After the redirect has been set up, it can take up to 24 hours for the changes to take effect. Please also make sure that you have associated the domain with your Jimdo Creator website.
