In this article, you will learn how to register a domain via your Jimdo Creator website and what happens after submitting the registration form. Please note that using your own domain is only possible with a paid Jimdo plan. Important: For .de domains and so called gTLDs, you must verify your data via email. Your domain will only be fully registered after this confirmation. If verification is not completed within 15 days, the domain will be deactivated.
Register your domain
Important:
Your domain is not registered automatically. You must actively complete the registration in your Jimdo dashboard.
Note on special characters
We recommend avoiding special characters such as å, ü, ñ, á when registering a domain. Domains containing special characters are converted into Punycode.
Example: tëstwébsite.com → xn--tstwbsite-e4as.com
The special character ß is not supported.
How to register your domain
- Log in to your Jimdo account and choose the desired website
- Click on Edit to enter the editor of your Creator website.
- In the menu, go to Domains and Emails > Domains.
- Click on Add new domain and choose to register a new domain.
- Enter your desired domain and click Check domain.
- If the domain is available, click Register domain. If it is already taken, choose a different domain.
- Fill out the form and submit it.
What information is required during registration?
When registering a domain, you will be asked to provide mandatory information. This data must be accurate.
If it is not correct, the domain verification will fail. The domain registrar may also request additional verification if the information appears incorrect.
- Phone number
- Account type: Business or Individual
- First name and last name
- Full address including country and postal code
- Email address
Note: The email address you enter during registration will be linked to your domain. This is where you will receive important domain related emails including AuthCodes.
Verify your data
After submitting the form, an additional step is required:
- For .de domains and gTLDs, you will receive an email to verify your data.
- Open the email and click the verification link.
- Your domain will only be registered after you confirm this email.
If you do not confirm the email, the domain will not be activated.
The registration process is usually completed within 24 hours after verification. After that, your Jimdo website will be accessible via your new domain.
What are gTLDs?
gTLD stands for generic Top Level Domain. These are domain extensions that are not tied to a specific country.
Examples include:
- .com
- .net
- .org
- .info
- .online
These domains are managed by international organizations such as ICANN.
In contrast, country specific domains like .de are managed by national authorities such as Denic.
Note
Certain general rules apply when registering a domain. These ownership regulations depend on the respective registry, for example Denic for .de domains or ICANN for .com, .net, and .org domains.
