If your Jimdo email stops working after a DNS change, it is usually because your MX records were changed or removed. DNS controls how your domain connects to services, and MX records define where your emails are delivered. To fix this, you need to restore the correct email provider settings or re enter the correct MX records.
What DNS and MX records mean
DNS (Domain Name System) connects your domain to different services like your website or email. It works like an address book for the internet.
MX records (Mail Exchange records) are part of your DNS settings. They tell the internet which server should receive your emails.
If these entries are changed or missing, your emails will no longer arrive in your inbox.
Why your email stopped working
Your email depends on correct MX records to receive messages. If these records are changed, emails can no longer be delivered.
In Jimdo Creator, this can happen if you:
- Change DNS settings or enable domain forwarding
- Switch the email provider
- Have MX records that were overwritten or deleted
As a result, your email may stop working immediately.
Common causes
- MX records overwritten during domain forwarding setup
- Changing the email provider in Menu > Domains and E-Mails
- Incorrect manual MX record configuration
- Changes made at an external domain provider
- Reconnecting or disconnecting email services
How to restore your email setup
Your email configuration is managed in Menu > Domains and E-Mails. The correct solution depends on your email provider.
If you use Jimdo Email
- Go to Menu > Domains and E-Mails
- Select your domain
- Choose Jimdo as your email provider
This will automatically restore the correct MX records.
If you use an external domain with Jimdo Email, set your MX records to:
mx1.jimdo.commx2.jimdo.com
If you use Google Workspace
- Go to Menu > Domains and E-Mails
- Select your domain
- Choose Google Workspace as your email provider
- Connect your Google account and complete the setup
This will automatically configure the correct MX records.

If you use Microsoft 365
- Go to Menu > Domains and E-Mails

- Select your domain
- Choose Custom MX records as your email provider
- Enter the MX records provided by your email service
- Save your changes
See instructions for using another email provider
Make sure:
- Old or incorrect MX records are removed
- Only the correct records are active
How to check if your changes worked
After updating your settings, changes are not applied immediately.
DNS propagation time:
- Usually up to 24 hours
- In some cases up to 48 to 72 hours
How to verify:
- Use MX lookup tools
- Use your email provider’s verification process
Make sure:
- The MX records match your provider’s requirements
- No outdated or conflicting records are present
What to do if it still does not work
- Double check your selected email provider in Domains and E-Mails
- Repeat the setup process if necessary
- Verify that your MX records are correct
- Wait until DNS propagation is complete
If the issue persists:
- Contact your email provider
- Contact Jimdo support
Why correct MX records matter
MX records tell the internet where to deliver your emails.
If they are incorrect or missing:
- Emails cannot be delivered
- Messages may bounce or get lost
- Your email service becomes unavailable
Keeping your MX records correctly configured ensures reliable email delivery.
