If your Jimdo website isn’t displayed correctly, individual blocks don’t load, or you run into a different issue, the cause is often local browser settings, extensions, or security software. With the steps below, you can fix these problems yourself in most cases.
If you’re having issues with your nameserver forwarding or your CNAME forwarding, you’ll find detailed guides in our Help Center.
Check your browser for the following
1. Clear your browser cache
Open instructions
Why this matters:
Clearing the cache makes your browser load all files (images,
etc.) fresh from the server. This often resolves display issues
caused by outdated, corrupted, or incompatible files.
How to:
Completely clear your browser’s cache
(all time) and delete all cookies. Then restart the browser
and also check whether the issue occurs
in a different browser.
2. Use Incognito/Private mode
Open instructions
Why this helps:
In Incognito/Private mode, the browser runs in a neutral state
(without old cookies/cache and usually without extensions).
This helps you check whether locally stored data is causing the
issue.
Desktop:
- Chrome/Edge: Menu top right → New Incognito/InPrivate window.
- Firefox: Menu top right → New private window.
- Safari (Mac): Menu → Private window.
Mobile:
- iOS (Safari): Open tab overview → select Private → tap the + icon.
- iOS (Chrome/Edge/Firefox): Menu … → New incognito/private tab.
- Android (Chrome/Edge/Firefox): Menu ⋮ → New incognito/private tab.
3. Update your browser
Open instructions
Why this is necessary:
Current versions fix bugs, close security gaps, and support all
features of modern websites. Many issues
are caused by outdated browser versions.
Desktop:
- Chrome/Edge: Menu (⋮) → Help → About Google Chrome/Microsoft Edge → update starts automatically.
- Firefox: Menu (☰) → Help → About Firefox → install update.
- Safari (Mac): → System Settings → Software Update → Safari updates via macOS.
Restart the browser after updating.
Mobile:
- iOS (Safari): Settings → General → Software Update (Safari updates with iOS).
- iOS (Chrome/Edge/Firefox): App Store → Profile → Available Updates → Update.
- Android (Chrome/Edge/Firefox): Play Store → Profile icon → Manage apps & device → Updates available → Update.
Restart the browser after updating.
4. Test a different browser
Open instructions
What this tells you:
If it works there, the issue lies with the original browser —
e.g., due to a setting or extension.
How to:
Open your Jimdo website in a different browser and check
whether the issue appears there too. Make sure you’re using
the latest version. You can find a list of supported browsers
in our
system requirements.
5. Reset your zoom level
Open instructions
Why this matters:
Too high or too low zoom can shift layouts,
cover controls, or scale media incorrectly.
Setting zoom to 100 % restores the default view.
How to:
Make sure your browser zoom level is set to 100 %.
Shortcuts: Ctrl + 0 (Windows)
or ⌘ + 0 (Mac).
If the steps above don’t help, try the following
System & connection
6. Disable your VPN
Open instructions
Why this can help:
VPNs change your internet connection and can slow it down
or block content, especially when routing traffic abroad.
Desktop:
- General: Open your VPN client → disconnect.
- Windows: Settings → Network & Internet → VPN → select the connection → Disconnect.
- macOS: System Settings → VPN (or Network) → select the connection → Disconnect.
Mobile:
- iOS: Settings → VPN (or in the VPN app) → disconnect.
- Android: Settings → Network & Internet → VPN → select the connection → Disconnect (or in the VPN app).
7. Remove custom/external code
Open instructions
Why this matters:
Custom code you’ve added (e.g., widgets or head-area tweaks)
can sometimes cause problems.
How to:
- Log in to your Creator website.
- In the left menu, go to Settings → Edit head.
- Select and copy all code shown there (Tip: on PC use Ctrl + C, on Mac use Cmd + C).
- Paste the code into a document (e.g., Notes or Word) so you don’t lose it.
- Delete all code in the head area and save.
- Check whether this fixed your issue.
- If not: you can copy your code back from the document and paste it in again (don’t forget to save).
8. Try a different device or network
Open instructions
What this tells you:
This helps determine whether the issue is caused by the device
(e.g., settings) or the network (firewall, DNS, etc.) and
further narrows down the source.
How to:
Open your Jimdo website on another device or via a different
network
(e.g., Wi-Fi or mobile data). If the error only occurs on the
original device/network, the cause is likely there.
9. Flush your DNS cache
Open instructions
What this does:
An outdated DNS cache can prevent your Jimdo website
from loading correctly. Clear your device’s DNS cache
to check whether that’s the cause.
How to:
-
Windows: Open Command Prompt and run
ipconfig /flushdns. -
macOS: Open Terminal and run
sudo dscacheutil -flushcache; sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder. -
Linux (varies by distribution):
run
sudo systemd-resolve --flush-caches.
Browser settings & features
10. Allow cookies
Open instructions
What cookies are for:
If cookies are blocked, parts of your Jimdo website may not load
or be editable. They store things like your login
and page settings.
Desktop:
- Chrome/Edge: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data → Allow all cookies.
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → section Cookies and Site Data → accept cookies.
- Safari (Mac): Safari menu → Settings → Privacy → make sure Block all cookies is not enabled.
Mobile:

- iOS (Chrome/Edge/Firefox): Follows the Safari/system setting; make sure cookies aren’t blocked in Safari.
- Android (Chrome/Edge/Firefox):Settings → Site settings → Cookies → Allow.
11. Disable browser extensions
Open instructions
Why this can help:
Extensions like ad blockers or security tools can block features
and content your Jimdo site needs.
Desktop:
- Chrome/Edge: Menu (⋮) → Extensions → problematic extension (e.g., Adblock Plus) → Disable/Remove.
- Firefox: Menu (☰) → Add-ons and themes → Extensions → select the extension → Disable.
- Safari (Mac): Safari menu → Settings → Extensions → disable or remove.
Mobile:
- iOS (Safari): Settings → Safari → Extensions/Content blockers → temporarily disable.
- iOS (Chrome/Edge/Firefox): No classic extensions; check any systemwide filter/blocker apps.
- Android (Firefox): Settings → Add-ons → disable problematic add-ons.
- Android (Chrome/Edge): No classic extensions; check any ad-blocker/DNS-filter apps or Private DNS settings.
12. Enable JavaScript
Open instructions
What JavaScript does:
JavaScript is required for many dynamic parts of your website,
like menus, image galleries, or shop features.
If it’s disabled, key functions will be missing and your site
may not display correctly.
Desktop:
- Chrome/Edge: Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → enable JavaScript.
-
Firefox: (Advanced users only) In
about:configmake surejavascript.enabledis set totrue. - Safari (Mac): Safari menu → Settings → Security → check Enable JavaScript.
Mobile:
- iOS (Safari): JavaScript is enabled by default; check Settings → Safari → Content blockers/Extensions and temporarily disable blockers.
- iOS (Chrome/Edge/Firefox): No separate JavaScript toggle; check any content-blocker/filter apps.
- Android (Chrome/Edge/Firefox):Settings → Site settings → JavaScript → Allow.
13. Disable script blockers
Open instructions
Why this matters:
Script blockers (e.g., NoScript) prevent required scripts
from running. Turn them off temporarily to check whether
blocked resources are causing the issue.
Desktop:
- Chrome/Edge: Extensions → script blocker (e.g., NoScript) → Disable/Remove.
- Firefox: Add-ons and themes → Extensions → script blocker → Disable.
- Safari (Mac): Settings → Extensions → disable or remove the script blocker.
Mobile:
- iOS (Safari): Settings → Safari → Content blockers/Extensions → disable the blocker.
- iOS (Chrome/Edge/Firefox): No script-blocker extensions; check filter apps (e.g., DNS blockers) and disable them temporarily.
- Android (Firefox): Settings → Add-ons → disable the script blocker.
- Android (Chrome/Edge): No script-blocker extensions; check systemwide ad blockers/DNS filters.
Security & access
14. Check your security software
Open instructions
Why this is relevant:
Some antivirus or security programs block scripts
and can prevent you from editing your Jimdo website.
How to:
- Open your security software settings (e.g., Kaspersky, Norton).
- Check the Web protection or Firewall sections.
- Make sure content and scripts from Jimdo are allowed.
15. Check your firewall settings
Open instructions
