Beginning in August 2024, all websites using a .jimdo.com subdomain are being migrated to a new .jimdoweb.com domain. This means that all Jimdo websites will then have a subdomain that ends with one of the following: jimdoweb.com, jimdofree.com, or jimdosite.com.
We are making this change to improve our service even further. We will maintain our 99.9% uptime and have connected to a separate network to ensure even better speed and performance for Jimdo hosted websites.
Accessibility
For the old subdomains, we will put so called 301 redirects into place. That way, visitors who type in your old website’s address will be redirected to your new updated address. This process happens completely automatically.
Google search results
This will only have a minimal effect on your website’s search results in Google. Using the 301 redirect method is the recommended way to notify Google’s bots that something has changed. While this means that only your current URLs will show up in Google, there might be a small delay during which your old address could show up in search results.
Updating old links
You should update old links in order to make search results more precise. In an ideal scenario, links to your website should only use the new subdomain. This is also advantageous for your website visitors because those links will take them exactly to the specified address.
There might be cases in which you cannot update an outdated link. These could be links on external websites that are not yours or on printed media. You don’t need to be concerned about these cases - the redirect will ensure that visitors get to your website.
Using an own domain
Most website owners who use their website for business purposes profit from using an own domain. Using a domain that ends with “.com” or “.net” gains trust with your website visitors and gives you the opportunity to create own email accounts with that domain.
You’ll need one of our premium plans to connect your own domain to your Jimdo Creator website. You can then register your domain with Jimdo. If you already own a domain, you can either set up a redirect for that domain or transfer it to Jimdo.
